Welcome to your Rate Calculator! This simple spreadsheet comes in two pages: one where your freelance work determines your entire income, and one where you have multiple sources of income and want to make up the difference.
Who am I, and why did I make this?
I’m a writer and comic creator, with experience on both sides of the invoice. One thing I learned early on when I was making comics is that not everyone know what they should be charging, or how to figure that out.
While this spreadsheet won’t have all the answers for you – industries operate at different rates – it can begin to point you in the right direction, and away from the risk that befalls all freelancers: underpricing their work.
What’s in this spreadsheet
This spreadsheet is designed to help calculate your rate based on your monthly expenses. There are two versions included in the document:
• An hourly rate calculator for those who only work freelance
• A version that accommodates those who have multiple sources of income
The spreadsheet also includes a section to calculate your quote for a project based on the time to complete, your hourly rate, the material cost and the tax you need to charge.
The Rate Calculator for Freelancers spreadsheet, and the PDF guidebook to help you along the way.
